As with most filmmakers, my path has not been a straightforward one. Before venturing into the world of visual communication and film, my previous pursuits  included years sailing and working as a chef, skipper, dive master and professional fishing guide along the East Coast of Africa and even a short stint as a Surf Rock drummer.

After obtaining an Honours Degree in Visual Communication specializing in Film, I taught Directing and Cinematography at the Open Window Institute before my passion for documentary and natural history filmmaking motivated me to permanently plunge into the film and television industry and start a production company called Bonanza Films which focuses on producing authentic South African documentary content.

I am fortunate to currently be based aboard a 40ft Catamaran called Annette.  My wife Roxanne and I are busy sailing her from Europe to the Caribbean which allows me to pursue my passion for natural history filmmaking and my love of the  outdoors and the ocean. I am at my happiest when I can combine my passion for storytelling with the underwater world and thrive in difficult and challenging filming environments. I am Commercial Class IV and IANTD AP Rebreather / Advanced Nitrox certified and have been fortunate to have worked  with the renowned underwater cinematographer Roger Horrocks. I am comfortable filming with all major camera systems and have an extensive knowledge of support, gimbal and lighting solutions.

I have directed, filmed and worked on numerous international series including Survival of the Species with Ben Fogle (BBC / Apple TV) and have spent the last three years working as an underwater cinematographer and camera assistant where my clients have included Netflix, Apple TV+, Discovery Channel, Silverback Films and Wildspace Productions.
